Daredevil: Born Again Will End With Season 3 — And That’s Way Too Soon

Season 2 finally found its footing. Now Daredevil: Born Again has one season left to stick the landing.
I knew Daredevil: Born Again wasn’t going to last forever, but three seasons? That feels way too soon. Reports say the upcoming third season will be the end of the Disney+ series, which means we’re already looking at the finish line just as the show finally seemed to hit its stride.
I liked the first season. I loved the second. Season 2 was a big improvement across the board and felt much closer to the Daredevil I wanted when this whole revival was announced. Charlie Cox is still perfect as Matt Murdock, Vincent D’Onofrio is still amazing as Wilson Fisk, and getting Deborah Ann Woll, Jon Bernthal and the rest of this world back together reminded me how much I missed all these characters.
That’s what makes the timing so damn frustrating. Season 3 has already finished filming, and showrunner Dario Scardapane is leaving the series after his contract wasn’t renewed. I don’t know what Marvel has planned beyond this show, and I’m not going to pretend I do, although guessing is part of the fun. Daredevil could continue elsewhere in the MCU. I certainly hope he does. But the important thing is Born Again itself is getting an ending.
As far as I’m concerned, this should’ve been seven seasons and a movie. Apparently Marvel didn’t consult me before making the decision, which continues to be one of their gravest mistakes. There’s still plenty of life in this cast and this corner of the MCU, and I could’ve happily watched Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk make each other miserable for years to come.
The good news is that they know this is the end. We’re not talking about a show disappearing after a cliffhanger while everyone involved waits to find out if they still have a job. Season 3 has the chance to actually close the book on Born Again, and after how much better Season 2 was, my expectations are pretty high.
So fine. If three seasons is all we’re getting, make the last one count. Give Matt Murdock a great ending, let Charlie Cox leave everything on the screen, and send Daredevil: Born Again out strong. Then wait about five minutes and find another reason to bring him back. Daredevil: Still Breathing anyone?
