Marvel’s Wolverine Story Trailer Finally Shows Us It's Claws
By Peter David · July 23, 2026 · Cobra Kai Never Lies
Insomniac’s latest trailer gives us the comic-book costumes, familiar enemies and brutal combat we expected, but Logan’s relationship with Jean Grey looks like the part driving of the story.
The new Marvel’s Wolverine story trailer doesn’t waste much time explaining what kind of game Insomniac is making for us.
Logan is angry. Jean Grey is right in the middle of the story. The claws are going through people instead of bouncing harmlessly off them, and one giant robot appears ready to erase an entire gene-pool off the map with a blast from its hand.

Spider-Man with claws this is not.
It looks violent, personal and much more interested in the animal deep inside the yellow suit than simply giving players another superhero playground to swing through.
The first footage showed us the basic shape of the game. This trailer finally shows us what it is actually about.
Jean Grey Is Not a Cameo
The biggest story reveal may be how important Jean Grey appears to be.
She isn’t walking into one scene, delivering a few lines and disappearing so Logan can get back to cutting people apart. Jean is all over the trailer, both in the action and in the quieter moments with Logan. Their relationship appears complicated before the game even begins.

Logan is angry, defensive and clearly carrying more than he wants to discuss. Jean doesn’t look afraid of him, but she also doesn’t look willing to ignore what is happening to him.
She pushes back. She reaches out. She looks like one of the few people who can get through to Logan when he would rather solve everything with his claws. That gives Insomniac something much stronger than a basic revenge story.

Wolverine has never been most interesting when he is simply the the animalistic rage monster. The real meat of the character is the guy who has survived decades of war, experimentation, betrayal and loss, then kept going because his body refuses to let him just die already.

They Actually Look Like the Comic Characters
Jean’s green-and-yellow costume is pulled directly from the comics without looking cheap or out of place. It is bright, recognizable and completely comfortable being a superhero costume.

Logan’s yellow-and-blue suit looks just as good.
The mask, costume, and yellow are all there. Insomniac didn’t turn it into black tactical armor with two tiny yellow stripes because somebody decided the original design needed to be embarrassed by itself.

Wolverine looks like Wolverine.
Jean Grey looks like Jean Grey.
That really shouldn’t feel like an achievement, but comic-book adaptations have spent years trying to convince us that recognizable costumes are somehow the hardest part.
Insomniac gets it right.
Logan’s Worst Enemies Are All Here
The trailer is packed with a bunch of characters tied directly to Wolverine’s history.
Sabretooth is here, which we all knew was going to happen. Victor Creed has spent most of his life making Logan’s existence worse, and no serious Wolverine story feels complete without him showing up to continue the tradition.

Omega Red also appears, complete with his metal tentacles and the general look of someone who has never woke up without ruining that day.

Lady Deathstrike gets a strong reveal of her own. Her fingers extend into long cybernetic claws, immediately setting up the kind of fight that should end with several walls missing.
The Hand is also part of the game.
Logan has a long history with the organization, and the trailer shows him cutting through its red-clad assassins during what appears to be one of the game’s sections in Japan.

These aren’t random villains pulled from a Marvel database.
Sabretooth, Omega Red, Lady Deathstrike and The Hand all connect to different parts of Logan’s past. They bring history with them, which gives each confrontation more stakes than another boss simply standing around waiting for Wolverine to arrive.
The Combat Looks Brutal Enough
The combat is fast, violent and deliberately ugly. Logan stabs enemies, cuts through bodies and removes limbs without the camera politely looking away. The dismemberment is not hidden, and the attacks don’t look like standard superhero punches with claw marks added afterward.

Wolverine fights like someone who knows almost any injury will heal on him.
He throws himself into attacks that would kill anyone else because protecting his own body stopped being a useful concern a long time ago. That's exactly how Wolverine should move. The brutality also looks connected to Logan’s state of mind rather than being added only for shock value.

His anger appears to be part of the story and possibly one of the biggest dangers facing the people around him. Jean doesn’t look impressed by it. She looks worried about what it is doing to him.
To me that is far more interesting.
This Finally Feels Like Its Own Game
Marvel’s Wolverine releases exclusively on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026.
We already knew Insomniac could make a polished Marvel game.
The bigger question was whether its Wolverine would feel like a genuine Wolverine story or another version of the studio’s Spider-Man formula with more blood and fewer jokes.
This trailer answers that question.
Insomniac finally showed us what kind of game it is making.
It looks like Wolverine.
