Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner Is Headed to DC’s Mister Miracle

Fillion isn’t done being the biggest asshole in the Green Lantern Corps. His Guy Gardner is getting ready to make the jump to animation in DC’s upcoming Mister Miracle series.
Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner is becoming one of the connective threads holding James Gunn’s DC Universe together.
Fillion will reprise the role in DC and Warner Bros. Animation’s upcoming adult animated series Mister Miracle, according to showrunner Tom King. He is the first confirmed member of the show’s voice cast.
That makes Mister Miracle another stop for Fillion’s Gardner after his live-action appearances in Superman and Peacemaker, with Lanterns next on the list. We’ve already gotten a better look at what DC has planned for Gardner in our coverage of the Lanterns Comic-Con trailer.
And frankly, DC may have stumbled onto one of the smartest pieces of casting in this entire new universe.
Guy Gardner is supposed to be obnoxious. Arrogant. Loud. Completely convinced that he's the best thing to happen to any situation. Fillion understands exactly where the line is between making that guy irritating and making him ridiculously entertaining.
That makes Mister Miracle a pretty natural place to use him.
The animated series is based on Tom King and Mitch Gerads’ acclaimed Mister Miracle comic and centers on Scott Free, the legendary escape artist caught between New Genesis, Apokolips and Darkseid’s pursuit of the Anti-Life Equation. King is serving as writer and showrunner.
The interesting part isn’t simply that Gardner is showing up.
It’s that DC continues treating animation and live action as pieces of the same universe instead of completely separate sandboxes. King and James Gunn have both discussed the idea of performers carrying their characters between formats, and Fillion is now one of the clearest examples of that approach actually happening.
For years, superhero animation usually meant another continuity, another cast and another version of the character. DC is trying something different.

No premiere date has been announced for Mister Miracle, and DC has not yet revealed who will voice Scott Free, Big Barda, Darkseid or Orion. But Gardner is officially in.
It seems like one medium just isn’t big enough to contain that haircut.
